Greymouth

A bright sunny morning to start our 5 1/2 drive across the northern tip and down the west coast to grey mouth. The first part of our journey was through beautiful countryside, with loads of wineries, fruit farms and sheep. Every turn was more beautiful than the next. Quiet roads though. We guessed at least 40% of the vehicles we saw were some form of camper! Our first stop was at New Zealand's largest swinging bridge. We both traversed it coming and going. Best way was to never look down! One also had the option of taking a rope chair across but we opted not to of course! This country is definitely keen on extreme sport, like fast boats, bungy jumping and flying off mountains! Our next stop was to visit caves. But after walking into the dark unknown, we decided we were ill prepared to be going down. Further down the coast we stopped at Punakaiki, famous for its pancake rocks and blowholes. Wow! Such amazing rock formations. The winding pathway took us right out over the rocks, where pounding waves have carved out canyons, caves and castle-like formations. It was jaw- dropping! Grey mouth was another hour down the coast. By now all the shops were closed so we treated ourselves to the movie " identity thief". Now settled into the camper again right by the ocean with a steady rain coming down!! Another great day.
