Napier

The sun came out! The sun came out! What a glorious morning. We walked into the town of Taupo, around the shops and by the lake for a view of the mountains. So pretty! And we found a mcdonalds with an actual plane on the site, with seating onside to eat! so cool. Our drive to Napier was about 2.5 hours- taking us through heavily forested mountains, great vistas, sheep farms, and wineries. Just gorgeous drive. Napier sits on hawkes bay and the Pacific Ocean. It's renowned for its 1930 Art Deco architecture the town had been rebuilt after a 1930 massive earthquake that destroyed the heart of the city. When it was rebuilt, every major building was in the same unique style. We took a two hour guided tour of the town - hearing all about its history and learning all we ever could about Art Deco! Our campsite is right on the Pacific Ocean and we can hear the crashing of the waves and feel the breeze off the water. Wow! Glorious..
