Taupo

Another full night of pounding rain - but at least no wind! We rose early to catch the first guided tour at Te Puia. Just as we arrived the sun burst out! Together with the geyser spewing hot water and steam hi into the air. Awesome to experience. The geothermal ground also bubbled with mud and steam. Our guide took us through a kiwi area, but being that the bird is both nocturnal and afraid, no pictures were allowed. Our Maori guide explained her cultural traditions. We saw a dance performance and weaving and carving demonstrations. On down the road to Taupo we stopped at the huka falls, Rushing waters through a deep gorge. Our next stop was amazing - crater of the moon thermal grounds. An hours walk through barren ground bubbling and steaming from every crevice. Felt right of a movie set! So yes , still raining. Arrived at our next holiday park for the night!!
